Bloom n Bark at Moores Building Art Space
Bloom n Bark is a new exhibition at Moores Building Art Space that brings together painting and textile works by New Zealand–born artist Jane Ryan, opening with a free evening event on Friday 30 January 2026.
Running from 31 January to 15 February 2026, Bloom n Bark transforms the heritage galleries into an intimate, memory-charged environment where gardens and animals become portals into the artist’s emotional life. Ryan revisits her childhood in Aotearoa through imagined visions of her mother’s garden, using heightened colour and intuitive mark-making to evoke places of care, abundance and longing rather than depict specific locations. Floral works are paired with tender portraits of dogs – especially her much-loved Baz – foregrounding companionship, loyalty and the everyday relationships that quietly shape a life.
Textiles are central to Ryan’s practice here, with fabric used to build rhythm, tactility and colour across the space so that remembering becomes a physical, material act as much as a visual one. The exhibition positions Bloom n Bark as a celebration of the people, places and non-human companions that remain “held, cherished and joyfully re-envisioned,” inviting visitors into a world shaped by memory, care and imagination. Bloom n Bark is free to visit daily from 10am–3pm at Moores Building Art Space, 46 Henry Street, Fremantle. wfac.org
